i understand that two of the plots on the america lane site are to be cut down in size. i also understood that the practice of cutting down plots to two and a half rod was no longer to be carried out. it was brought in supposedly as a tempery measure to cut the long waiting list at the time and assurances were given that when the waiting list was at a more reasonable figure the practice would cease. needless to say that assurance was kicked into touch . the folly of cutting all plots down to small units can be seen on the america lane site in the shape of john and sue cullens old plot. this was once the best plot on the site . one cannot say that now and the main reason for that is that it should have been left as a single unit and not divided up. the cutting down of all plots was never a good idea and as this practice was supposedly ended perhaps someone can tell me why it has been resurrected.

Dear Wilbarra
I am not sure where you have got the idea that the Town Council is cutting down the size of plots being offered. Yes, Sue and John Cullen's plot was divided into four, but with the new allotment policy that has been introduced to allow allotment holders to have a larger plot, there has been no more dividing of plots and one of the tenants of Sue and John's plot now has half of it. An allotment holder on a 2.5 rod plot has recently transferred to a 5 rod plot, so you can see we are following the new policy and promoting bigger plots for those who want them. Perhaps you could let me know why you think plots are being reduced in size and which plots they are, as at the moment I have two available plots, neither of which I am intending to reduce in size.

dear helen my information is this one plot holder only wants half of their plot and you are waiting on the plot holder to let you know which half she can keep. this information i gained from someone on a plot very near to the tenant in question. the second one was on a plot near me when someone came and told me they were looking at a plot with a view to taking the bottom half of that plot. i can give you plot numbers and names if you wish but would prefer to give you them privately via this forum private service. your reference to the person who has moved off part of john and sues old plot and moved onto a larger plot only reinforces the view that the plot should never have been cut up. one only has to look at the transformation of the plot he took over, in such a short time to see he should have been given the whole of john and sues plot in the first place. he has turned a drab looking plot into one of the best on the site in a very short space of time. i am glad that the folly of cutting all plots down to two and a half rod will no longer take place.

as there was some discussion on the subject of the cutting down of plots here is an item from the 2009 plot holders meeting . it was admitted by carole preston and margeret baker that the sole reason for cutting the size of plots down to 2 and 1/2 rod was to cut the long waiting list down to an acceptable size. they promised that this practice would cease when the waiting list had been got down to a more realistic size. in 2014 a certain councillor wrote stating that in his view the practice of cutting down plots should cease as it was obvious that the cutting down of all plots was detrimental to the site.
