The America Lane Plotholders Committee had its first meeting of the year last week and we will shortly be publishing minutes on this forum so that everyone can see what we discuss - and we hope others will be encouraged to suggest issues to us, or even join the Committee, as we have two places left to fill.
We talked about social events, so watch this space for plans of our summer barbeque to be announced soon, and also about practical ways of helping one another. Lots of us informally swap seeds and cuttings with friends, but it might be nice for all to have the chance to benefit from this, especially new plotholders, so we
will set up a day early in May where we will put up a trestle table in the new Community Garden area and invite all to bring along their unwanted cuttings. And if because of illness, or simply getting a plot late when you haven't had greenhouse space before and you haven't got anything to trade, don't worry! There will always be surplus tomatoes, courgettes, cucumbers and beans, and perhaps many other things too. All true gardeners will happily give over their excess for someone else to nurture rather than waste it completely. The date will be announced soon and we'll put hti up on the physical Noticeboard by the gates as well.
The other key date for your diaries is the next full Allotment Holders meeting to be held by the Town Council on either 24 or 25 April. This will be your chance to ask the Town Clerk and his colleagues, and the Chairman of the Council's Environment and General Purposes Committee about any issues affecting your allotments from cost to security and sustainability.
