Thanks for your reply. We've tried the tip you kindly shared on here and replied explaining that unfortunately it didn't work. We freely admit that it's a problem with our key and the new lock (we didn't have a problem with the old lock) We have contacted the council about it, but we haven't as yet heard back. I understand why some people might struggle with a combination lock (sight or remembering the code). But, as you say, maybe this all started because some people were having problems with the old lock because of their keys. Here's hoping we can all get in and out of the allotment soon.
Tried this morning with several keys including padlock maker's own and those cut to pattern by other suppliers: all worked very easily, but as in this notice, if anyone has any difficulty, please report direct to Helen at the Town Council. Many thanks to her and to Fiona, the Community Warden, for a lot of time and work over this. Much appreciated.
Welcoming back an old perennial thread: the gate lock and key. I understand that yesterday and today some people had trouble with their keys and this morning the Grounds team came down with another lock and we tried a few experiments. The problem seems to be that some keys are better made than others and probably the softish metal wears away just a bit. Also heat may be an issue. But the lock itself is fine and should not be taken away and the site left open to vandalism if anyone has a problem with their keys.
If you do, please contact Helen at the Town Hall who should be able to arrange a replacement for you.
