October was mainly a general clear up. Gone now are all the summer crops, beans, courgettes etc all gone to the compost heap. The kale continues to be the gift that just keeps on giving. We tried a few parsnips even though we haven't had a proper frost yet. And the first handful of sprouts. The autumn planted crops seem to be doing well. Garlic, shallots and onions have started to put up shoots. The cauli and spring greens are filling out nicely and guess what, the new kale is romping away. Rhubarb is dying back and I intend to lift and divide soon. I'll have loads more than I need to replant so if you know anyone who wants a crown or two let me know.
Last few weeks I haven't had much time to spend on the plot. We got a puppy late on Friday the week before last. It was a bit of a rush as although we were planning to get one when we did apply it happened very quickly. He is a rescue pup so it is a best guess as to what he is. The vet had said Collie Terrier cross. The rescue centre said maybe some poodle as he has a long shaggy coat. I did a bit of googling and the closest likeness I can find is Tibetan Terrier. But he does have the Collie markings so that could be the mix. Any other suggestions? He hasn't been to the plot yet but I hope he will become a regular. He is a bit of a sponge on legs though and likes to roll round in the mud so it is going to be fun.
I guess things are going to be a bit slower now. I have a few projects planned for the winter. I hope to get the front of the plot finished off, where the pallets are at the moment. Not sure what I am doing with it. Probably a small bed at the front like I have on the other side for flowers or fruit and then maybe another larger bed or just a space for sitting down.
