A shed has been broken into and tools disturbed, but not stolen. On a nearby plot there are large and heavy footprints - unfortunately through an onion bed - as of someone running away. This seems to have happened at the weekend and has been reported to the Council and to the police. Fiona, the Community Warden, who regularly visits the site came promptly today when alerted and will be liasing with the police as soon as a crime number has been allocated. This will ensure that the police have to visit the site and include in their patrols. Meanwhile Fiona will be recommending some improvements to the fences to make it more difficult for thieves and vandals to gain entrance .
Fiona makes the following recommendations to plotholders -
- Don't keep valuable items in sheds or greenhouses. Bring them to do a job of work, but only leave overnight tools that you could afford to lose
- Do ensure that the gate is kept locked at all times
- Report promptly any evidence of broken fences or disturbance to the Council
- If there is a theft or vandalism do report it to the police, either online on 101 or by visiting the police station
- Any alarms, flashing lights or buzzers are better than nothing at all - it may just deter an inexperienced thief
Many thanks to Fiona and to Helen Hewett for taking really prompt action.
