there dos seem to be a difference in what was put in the mid sussex times about how america
lane got a community garden and what really happened.
for a start the council did not come along and say here you are we want you to have this garden .
just the oppisite .
for years they were against the garden
the original garden was built by my youngest grandaughter and myself in six weeks and in the
first year came forth in the south east section of a national competition for the best allotment.
despite the fact that i was paying rent for this garden the town hall recommended to the council
at the time that the garden was not being used for its true and proper purpose.
the present garden was fought for tooth and nail by myself and later by another tenant .
we finally got the piece of ground we have now when the town clerks hand was forced and he had
to pay a visit to the site and discuss with the tenant ,who had the plot, about whether it would be a
good idea if he gave up the two plots where the garden is now.
at no time did we get any help from any councillor or for that matter anybody else.
when we got it there was a lot of hard work to be done before it even got a little bit presentable
at no time have i ever seen a councillor or a town hall worker bending his back in the cause.
ask andrew lawes if a councillor stpped and gave him a hand when he was slogging away getting the
garden ready for this years barbicue
no the garden didnt just drop from heaven or the town hall it took a lot of hard work and effort from just
a few people to get it and keep it
