Tenant inspectors from Oathall Avenue and America Lane conducted their regular inspection of these sites with Haywards Heath Town Çouncil representative on Monday 10th June. They recommended a number of actions in regard to specific plots and asked the Council to put out the following reminder in the interests of all tenants:
Most of our allotment plots are kept to a high standard, in good condition and we'll cultivated. There are a few things to look out for as we approach high summer that everyone must bear in mind and act on.
1. Now is the time to cut down and dispose of all weeds and flowering grasses before they set their seed. Remember that they don't just affect your plot but may spread to neighbouring plots and throughout the site.
2. Please keep all paths between plots free of weeds and other obstacles. If the paths are of grass they should be mowed frequently and the edges kept trimmed and clear of cultivated areas. The rule of thumb is that if you look out on your plot from the main pathway you are responsible for the path to your left.
3. Always clear away hoses and any other material that could be a trip hazard. Allotments are used by people of all ages and some are more vulnerable.
4. If you're going on holiday make sure you leave your plot as neatly as possible. It will be much nicer to come home to and you are more likely to get a friendly response from your neighbour if you ask them to water for you in your absence
