One item in the new allotments policy has already come into operation. The council have agreed to our requests to take a piece of the site out of rental and to pass it over to all of us to run as a Community Garden. We know from talking to you that several people are enthusiastic about the idea and are willing to contribute time and labour. That land is the former plot 10 recently given up by Andrew Lawes and we are looking into planting specialised fruit trees and bushes and providing paving around the perimeters of the garden. It will be a place to meet others, to rest and enjoy for its own sake, and for children to play in. We very much look forward to hearing from anyone who would like to take part in developing this resource. If you have any offers of help, suggestions or want to hear more about the opportunities please talk to any of us on the America Lane Committee, and particularly to John King whose brainchild this is, following on from a plot he used to keep as a garden on this site some years ago. Many thanks to John and also to Andrew who has cleared the patch and will be taking part in the redesign. Some views of the plot with residual fruit bushes and rhubarb before replanting.

We have been promised some fruit bushes from a couple of sites locally. These are old varities. Also one site in Preston and one Birmingham site have said they will contribute something at a later date. The work has come to a standstill at the moment because some gooseberry bushes have to be moved before we can do anything else and this spell of dry weather has prevented this. The coming autumn should see some headway. we hope.

Attached is a suggested layout designed to conform with the measurements of the existing plot (Thanks Andrew for the mapping). We can talk about ideas for the Community Garden at the Alltotment Holders Meeting scheduled for 12th September, all comments welcome. 20160830Community Plot v1.pdf (362.24 KB)
