For the first time this year I have sown a green manure to cover the beds I am not using over winter. The one I am using is called Winter Mix from Dobies Seeds and it is a mix of Rye and Vetch. In about February you cut it down and then dig it into the soil. This adds organic matter and fixes nutrients that would otherwise be washed away.
It has grown very quickly. This bed was sown about a month ago. I have now sown a second bed having harvested all my brassicas.
