I'm the Administrator of this forum and I'm also Moderator of the Unofficial Sussex Cricket forum. Here, we have 46 members, probably about half of them active in the sense of regularly posting and or viewing, whereas the cricket forum has 318 members, with the same sort of levels of involvement. It is always interesting to see how the peaks and troughs of traffic vary between the two and I've already noted that in the summer there is far more activity - pages viewed and posts made - on the cricket forum than in the winter, whereas we gardeners tend to be too busy gardening to spend so much time online when the weather is good and the crops, and weeds, are plentiful.
What had very much surprised me and pleased me this year was the viewing figures for Christmas day. I didn't expect to see anyone posting any messages on either forum, and I only looked in briefly to check that the site was up and running smoothly. ProBoards makes available the stats on the following day and when I checked I was astonished to see the comparisons. The relatively big cricket forum, which gets 90, 000 views a month in the summer and still 60, 000 or more in the winter, had 1043 page views. That's not surprising, it has been around for a while and apart from the members there are now lots of links to the site in Google and lots of passing traffic that is directed there. Then I looked at this site and I was surprised and delighted to see that we had a record 598 page views on Christmas day: more than half the number of a forum that is many times bigger.
It is very nice to think that some of you, and maybe others not yet members, spent time on a peaceful day reading some of wilbarra's stories, or following our progress with the community garden at America Lane, or perhaps checking out some of the recipes.Maybe people came to look back over the year, following some of the summer postings, about the hopes we had then for our plants, or to read and look at the photos of our BBQ. Whatever the reason, I hope that those who viewed will come back again often, and some will post of their own doings, their hopes and their experiences.
