There have been several incidents of sheds being forced open in recent months. Fortunately in most cases very little of value has been stolen but it is still distressing and troublesome. We can do very little about making the boundaries of the site totally secure but there are resources we can call on to help keep watch. Please report any incident you are aware of to the police, however trivial it seems. They will log the incident and the more that are recorded, the more likely it is that regular monitoring can take place. There is also a Community Warden now employed by the Town Council and his job includes patrolling and deterring acts of vandalism and petty theft. We have arranged for the Community Warden to have a key to the site and he will include it in his regular patrol area. Useful contacts for reporting crime and vandalism: Sussex Police - Call 101 or report online at sussex.police.uk/contact-us/report-online/Town Hall – to report any damage to fencing etc, call 01444 455694 or online at town.clerk@haywardsheath.gov.uk Haywards Heath Allotment Users Forum – post any information to help your friends and neighbouring plotholders hhplots.freeforums.net/

Chris, the Community Warden, visited the site this morning and walked round with me, viewing the various points where people could gain access. Chris suggests that the most recent incidents, where padlocks have been forced, suggest something other than vandalism but its puzzling that nothing seems to have been taken - at least as far as has been reported to me.
Chris is very enthusiastic and keen to help. He has direct access to the Sussex Police crime logs and he is willing to make the necessary reports provided he is given full details. He is also very proactive in his duties, and is willing to consider regular evening visits and even to spend a night in his van, doing regular patrols. This kind of high visibility activity is much more of a deterrent to would-be criminals than even the strongest fencing.
To help him, and to help ourselves, please let me know of any incidents, however trivial, from vandalism through crops being stolen and breakins with theft of equipment. I will act as the central point of reference on the site and pass everything onto Chris. You can post on here and I will pick it up on mobile, or if you send me a pm I will give you my mobile number (I won't post that in public on the internet for fear of being swamped with all sorts of interesting propositions), or you can talk to me on my plot 6B.
Thanks to Chris and the Town Council for responding to our complaints.

lets hope that this sign dosnt end up in the same way as the two the police put up eighteen months ago. they were torn down and put up on the fence oppiste the hospital. the council have never explained why they thought they looked better there than where the police put them
