Are you free on Sunday? Are you free 2pm - 5pm? Do you think you might be hungry? Would you like to meet your fellow plot holders at America Lane? If the answer to any of the above is yes - then we have the answer! Come along to the BBQ at the far end of the America Lane site and cook your burgers and sausages and enjoy a great afternoon with friends on the allotment. Hope you will join us? Look forward to seeing you there.... ps you bring your food and drink - we will provide the BBQs!

Hi everyone
Latest weather forecast suggests possible light rain between 1 and 2 pm. We'll know more tomorrow when we look up at the skies, but for the moment, please assume that the barbecue will go ahead, though the start might be delayed.

Thanks to everyone who was able to come to the barbecue yesterday afternoon - and what a relief that the rain held off and the sun came out and we had a fine, warm day. Great to see so many families there - mums and dads, and grandads and grandmas, and everywhere children - to enjoy a peaceful time to chat and relax. And for Chris Purvis to continue a fine tradition started at the Seed Swap with the perfect pose: Albert's steaks were succulent and inspired, fully matching the gardening skills ha has brought to his current plot in a very short time. Thanks for sharing - both - with us Albert! It was lovely to share the afternoon with friends from Oathall, and I understand that Oathall may now be doing something similar: we're very happy to lead the way for you ! Thank you Sylvia for the gift of seeds so that we can, literally, grow our friendship with you. Guests included the Mayor and wife and Cllrs Clarke, Hillier and De Mierre. As usual, I was left looking like the plonker in the pinnie, but hey, what does it matter compared with their various sartorial splendours. But the biggest deal of the day was the raffle, again in aid of St Catherine's Hospice, which this year raised £65 (last year £45) for the magnificent prizes of the RHS Allotment Handbook and Planner, won by Amalia; a Marks and Spencer picnic blanket, won by Sylvia from Oathall; and an excellent bottle of Chardonnay won by Aaron. Very glad that two of these prizes went to Albert's family, not least because all of his children magically had pocket-money to buy the tickets1 Thanks everyone. At the close of the afternoon I heard some suggestions that people might like an autumn harvest-home gathering. If you're interested, please write in and we''ll see what we can do, meanwhile, enjoy the summer crops and the weeding...and the weeding...and the weeding!

It looks like a good time was had by all. I am sooooo sorry that a family emergency prevented me from coming - especially as I spent weeks persuading you all to go!! Murray - you look mighty fine in your apron! Hope you didn't have to cook for everyone!!
As for a harvest-home gathering - could we combine that with our pumpkin carving event? Not sure if we have advertised that here on the forum - but we did on Facebook. What do others think?

A thank you letter from St Catherine's Hospice for the money we raised through the raffle. Well done everyone for being such good sports in an excellent cause.
