WHY IS THERE A WAITING LIST?
The waiting list for allotments is not unique to Haywards Heath but all over
the country councils are experiencing the same problem.
The answer to the problem in most cases is not a great surge towards people
wanting plots but the failure of the councils to administer the sites they have,
properly and to actually carry out their own rules that they themselves put in
place.
The america lane site is a good example of this failure.
When in 2009 the town council were faced with a huge waiting list they came up
up with certain proposals to reduce the list.
Because some of these proposals were controversial and because the late councilor
Paddy Henry produced photographs at the council meeting of thirteen plots that
were not being used and in a state of neglect, the council instructed that a rigid
and robust inspection process would operate on the America lane site and that a
monthly inspection of plots would be put into operation.
This has never been done.
In fact just the opposite.
We now have a situation where one tenant had two plots taken away from him
(plots that were kept in an immaculate condition) and given to people on the
waiting list and are now in a terrible state of neglect ,while other tenants have had
their right to keep their plots questioned by more than one councillor because of the
state they are in,are allowed to keep their plots.
WHY.
So i ask
why is there a waiting list?
Why is there a need for the tax payer of Haywards Heath to pay for another allotment
site.
When all that is needed is that the councils instructions of 2009 be carried out.
