The inspection teams were unchanged: Helen Hewett, for HHTC, Roy Hayward and Sylvia Harris from Oathall Avenue, Murray Crump and Philip Kingsley from America Lane.
Overall there had been good improvements and in most cases the plots of tenants new this year were commended as being of a very good standard. At Oathall one warning letter was to be sent, and one recommendation to evict where the plot had still not been kept up to acceptable quality. At America Lane, 2 evictions were recommended, one warning letter, and plotholders were to be contacted in 2 other cases to discuss options for improvement.
The next full inspection will take place on Wednesday 9th August. As before the tenant inspectors will monitor the condition of plots between now and then, offer advice where needed, and refer to Helen Hewett where appropriate.

HOW CAN ONE SAY THAT THERE HAS BEEN AN IMPROVEMENT IN THE STANDARD OF THE SITE WHEN SO MANY PLOTHOLDERS HAVE GRASS GROWING,SEEDING MERRILY ALL READY TO SPREAD THEIR SEEDS ON PLOTS OF TENANTS THAT KEEP THE FRONTAGE OF THEIR PLOTS FREE OF WEEDS. ONE HAS ONLY TO GO EITHER END OF THE SITE AND LOOK UP AND OR DOWN TO SEE THAT THE LOOK OF THE SITE IS ONE NOT TO BE COMPLACENT ABOUT. THE FRONTAGE OF THE PLOTS AND HOW IT IS KEPT IS THE RESPONSIBILTY OF THE PLOT HOLDER AND THE INSPECTION TEAM ARE FAILING IN THEIR REMIT IN NOT TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT THIS FACT. IT IS NOT THE COUNCILS WORKFORCE PLACE TO DO THIS JOB, IT IS THE TENANTS WHO SHOULD DO THIS TASK. I FOR ONE DO NOT EXPECT OR WANT TO SEE WEED KILLER SPRAYED ALL OVER THE ROAD READY TO BE CARRIED BY SOLES OF FOOTWEAR ONTO MY PLOT. I TRUST THAT THE NEXT TIME THERE IS AN INSPECTION THAT THE INSPECTION TEAM GO BACK TO TAKING THE FRONTAGE OF THE PLOTS INTO CONSIDERATION.

Thanks wilbarra. We did say "overall there had been good improvements" but your point is a very good one. The tarmac maintenance at America Lane is a Town Council responsibility but grass and weed growth reflects badly on the look of the site and as you say spreads rapidly to neighbouring plots. Whilst the next full inspection won't be till August we will be monitoring, as stated above, and will urge all plotholders to, literally, take matters into their own hands and scrape up the grass and weeds rather than use weedkiller.

Overall - i think at America Lane we are doing great! Perhaps some of us plot holders weren't aware of the requirement to keep the "boundary" at the front of our plots with the tarmac, weed free. It is often quite hard to do that as the broken tarmac provides a wonderful home for weeds and grass but a hard task for maintenance! However, I agree - we should all do our bit to keep weeds to a minimum for the sake of all, spreading of seed is a depressing thing! But let's be kind to ourselves and not get too wound up about it. Largely - I think America Lane site rocks! :-)
