The following is an update from the Town Clerk on the recent flooding in America Lane:-
The current situation is that MSDC have undertaken a full review of the drainage network from the culvert allowing water to leave Western Road Cemetery (behind Hanbury Football Stadium). The result of the survey has identified two problems on the land located between Western Road Cemetery and America Lane allotments adjacent to Silver Birches . 1) the drainage wall under Silver Birches has collapsed and needs to be re-built and 2) there are sunken drain covers on the land also blocking the flow of water. This means water is just cascading off the land as it has now where to go and is falling downwards to the ditch. Both issues are to be addressed during this financial year by MSDC and hopefully will allow water to move through the watercourse through the designated stream at America Lane Allotments to the east of the site. Currently water is falling to the west of the site as the land falls, which means water is dispersing onto the highway.
WSCC have agreed to rebuild the drainage wall at the culvert on America Lane on The Hollow side and reinstate the land, which is currently barriered off. The wall and the culvert is inside the fenced designation of the allotment site, but HHTC does not own the area of the culvert. There are also long-term plans to address issues with the drains under America Lane by WSCC. Again, this work will allow for water to leave the allotment site quickly, so there are solutions needed both on HHTC land and on the highway to help water leave the area through the watercourse and drainage system.
