Delighted to be able to share that these awards are being revived this year after the COVID hiatus. In Bloom will be judging allotments this month and awards will be made probably in September. It is hoped that there will be a return to the old prizegiving format of a presentation at a tea party at Haywards Heath Town Hall but this very much depends on the successful containment of the virus and consequent effects on social distancing.
Judges will be drawn from all 4 allotment sites and will work to the same criteria to make sure that there is equal treatment for all plots. Individual awards will be mde for each site and for best in Town. Watch this thread for further details.

I must Congratulate Haywards Heath Town Council on their GREEN activities in recent months on the Priory Estate a couple of Wildflower Plots have been planted and they are coming into Bloom right now -
Many wildflowers are in serious decline or endangered, and they need our protection. Just because a particular species appears to be numerous in one place does not necessarily mean that it is common elsewhere; you may even be looking at the last remaining plants of a species on the verge of extinction.
The main threats to our wildflowers, other than the uncertainty of what may befall them as a result of climate change, are loss of habitat, intensive agricultural practice with its excessive use of herbicides and insecticides, and housing and industrial development.
Wildflower restoration not only supports biodiversity by allowing bees, butterflies and other species to thrive – particularly with the crucial pollen and nectar their flowers produce – but in the longer term they also improve habitat connectivity, water quality, carbon sequestration and natural flood management.
All of these are crucial for nature to thrive in the future and we need to be seen as the custodians of our Allotments - We need cohesion in our planning, who is up to the challenge to save our way of life - ARE YOU.

I CANNOT SEE WHAt THE ARTICLE BY MURRAY ABOUT THE BEST KEPT ALLOTMENT JUDGEING HAS TO DO WITH YOUR THOUUGHTS ON INSECT LIFE. SURELY THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT ALONG WITH YOUR OTHER ARTICLE. ARE YOU SUGGESTING THAT THE JUDGES SHOULD TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE PLOTS WITH THE MOST WEEDS ON THEM. OR ARE YOU SUGGESTING THAT THE INSPECTION SHOULD BE DONE IN THE TRADIONAL WAY AND THE BEST KEPT PLOT,IN THE EYE OF THE JUDGES,SHOULD WIN. PERHAPS THE JUDGING HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE, IF IT HAS THEN ONE WOULD KNOW WHICH WAY THE JUDGES JUMPED.

I think you miss my point wil
I was congratulating Haywards Heath Town Council on promoting its Green Credentials, they have been actively working for a long time now in creating a better environment, for all of us and the wildflower and conservation element of our allotments form part of the Whole Picture, not just individuals but as a community.
And are you aware that typing in Capitals is the equivalent of SHOUTING!

David Yes i aware that typing in capital letters is equilevent to shouting It seemed the only way to get you to get you to pause for breath and get a reply from you. It worked didnt it ? You have got a good thing going dont spoil it by ignoring what someone says who are coming from a different angle. I was like that when i was as young as you but i learnt that other people have points to offer. You are getting a good readership where you started keep it there and you will get a lot more.
