There have been a number of petty thefts recently - fruit taken from a tree in a plot, a fork taken from an outbuilding, toilet rolls and hand cleanser kindly provided by a plotholder and placed in the loo vanished overnight! Impossible to believe any plotholder would do this and too minor and sporadic to be a serious planned burglary. We have had this problem before and suspect its linked to occasional bits of vandalism from outside.
This has been reported to the Town Council with a request for them to ask the Town Warden to include the site regularly in their patrols and to put a sign saying "Site under constant watch" or similar on the outside gate. Unfortunately access to the site from gardens on the land side or via the stream under the conduit is hard to completely restrict unless we have high walls. What we can do as individual plotholders is:
Always lock the front gates behind you, especially late in the day when someone may follow you in
Don't leave any valuable equipment such as tillers or mowers on the site for longer than necessary, even under lock and key
and if you do find items disturbed or missing, even if trivial, let me know or report it direct to Helen at Town Council.

Update - on the plot this morning and Gareth has had all his fruit taken from apple and pear trees overnight. I will be talking to Town Council in the morning about this. Once again - report any incidents straight away. Clearly there is an intruder or group of intruders who've found an easy way in and it seeems their activities are increasing.

Better news on site security. On Monday I attended the Environment and General Purposes Committee meeting at the Town Hall in Boltro Rd to present a number of issues on behalf of plotholders. Site security was high on that list and I was assured by the Town Clerk that 1. A vulnerable area on the land ditch side will immediately have some fencing put in on the Council-owned land to ensure their is a physical boundary 2. Signs will soon go up deterring opportunist vandlaism by warning of patrols by Community Wardens. As soon as a new Warden is appointed they will include the site in their rounds. Other issues being considered for out protection are the possibility of combination locks rather than keys, so that no physical key has to be returned if a tenancy ceases, and inviting the police to visit the site.
