America Lane Plotholders Committee
Meeting by Zoom, Tuesday 15 March at 19:00
Murray Crump, Sylwia Wrobel, Andrew Lawes were present.
Some brief minutes of what we discussed:
1. The allotment holders meeting at the Town Hall. Very encouraging turnout and involvement. Good council presentation of plans for reinforcing stream bank and affording help to allotment holders affected by this. Need to keep communications open and feed back to council. Will share any information from letters sent with April invoices and MC will raise and attend next Environment and General Purposes meeting to follow up.
2. 14 March plot inspection was a benchmark exercise, to identify where winter storm issues might affect plots and to encourage allotment holders to resolve and prepare for summer. Next inspection 25 April – after Easter Holiday, and after allocation of any vacant plots to waiting list.
3. All agreed on resuming basic plan for summer activities in Community Garden – a Spring event based on seedling swaps and encouraging help with garden weeding and maintenance; a summer barbecue and prizegiving; an Autumn festival to celebrate harvesting.
Dates – Sunday 8 May, Sunday 24 July, Sunday 30 October
Special characteristics, to be included in leaflet produced by Andrew with suggested wording from Murray:
Spring event –
Share seedlings and refreshments
Encourage other plotholders to help with Community Garden
Summer celebration –
Bring regional or national food to share – celebrate individuals and nations joined together as a community
A prize for best floral display
Scarecrow competition for children and families
Autumn festival –
Prizes for best (size and shape) crops
Grow biggest squashes (pumpkins, marrows, etc)
