It seems that every year a new invasive plant arrives and if not dealt with early on it spreads from plot to plot. This year's hot tip on my plot is Oxalis or Wood sorrel. The first sight of it is small patches of very small pale green shamrock-type leaves, and it looks quite innocuous. But dig up carefully with a fork or trowel and you'll see that there is a dense mass of fibrous white roots ending in a clump. This is its rhizome, and unless that is removed it will continue producing fresh leaves and spreading till it has overrun your bed or border. Don't use a hoe; that will only take off the top leaves.
