The same team of tenant inspectors - Sylvia Harris and Roy Hayward from Oathall Avenue, myself and John KIng at America Lane - will continue this year working with the Town Council. In January we conducted a short inspection and asked the TC to do some work under the newly agreed Maintenance Plan to scrape a lot of the weed and moss from the tarmac of the central path and help preserve the fabric. I'm very pleased to see that the Grounds Team have done this and you'll notice that the frontage inside the gates now shows nicely defined edges. It's now up to each plotholder to keep the frontage of their own plots weed-free and in good condition to prolong the life of the path as much as possible.
The Town Council has also removed two dead trees, one either side of the gates at the front of the site and we've asked them to include us in the next round of sapling planting. They have also continued to clear the ditch and stream.
The next inspection will be on 14th February, and then at 2 month intervals throughout the year - in April, June, August, October and December. If you're having a problem keeping up the condition of your plot because of illness or work commitments then please come and talk to myself or John, or to one of your neighbours and we can try and help you out for a short time. Don't let it deteriorate to the point where weeds become a nuisance to your neighbours or the appearance becomes unsightly. It's worth considering that with the threat of building development always present it is more than ever important that we show how valuable and valued our allotments are to ourselves and to the community around us.
