Last year at our BBQ we introduced a Good Neighbours award for the plotholder who had gone out of his way to help others on the site. The award was won by Oscar for the help he and his family had given in weeding another plotholder's fruit bushes.
We'll be continuing this theme at this year's BBQ and would like to invite anyone who's been the beneficiary of a helping hand, or who has seen an instance of neighbourliness, to contact us to make nominations for the award, which will be presented at the BBQ on 21st July. Just let anyone on the ALP Committee - me, Jane Hack or Andrew Lawes - know and we will place the nominations before the Judge on the day. Last year's Judge was Cllr Matt Jeffers, Chair of the Environment and General Purposes committee on Haywards Heath Town Council and we very much hope he will be able to attend again this year.
On the same theme of being good neighbours we'd like to make an offer to help get our Garden into good shape. If anyone is going on holiday this summer and needs their plot watered and kept an eye on while they are away, the ALP members will be happy to help. All we would ask in return is for anyone to spend 10 minutes at the end of their time on the site in weeding the Community Garden. No experience needed and rubbish bags for the bindweed, couch grass, willowherb etc will be provided!
