Just an update for everyone. Prior to the coronavirus crisis we had planned a full range of communal activities in the Garden, beginning with a Spring seedling and produce swap day following the very successful event last year. This was to have been held in May. Obviously this cannot take place now because of social distancing. But the virus and necessary precautions shouldn't altogether spoil the good community spirit we have built up here at America Lane. We can perhaps set up a table in the Community Garden where plotholders can leave their surplus seedlings and collect from others.
The second event planned was the BBQ, and we had scheduled this for 19 July. From the latest medical advice at press conferences this too looks unlikely, but if things change we will notify everyone. Finally we still have hopes of holding our Autumn Festival and the date for this is Sunday 25 October. Let's all look forward to the days when we can share and be sociable again.

Looking forward to the chance for plotholders to meet up in safety and share in the good things of friendship, open air and growing plants. A good takeaway from this strange and sinister year. Weather is not as great as we'd like but should be bearable. ******Special Award for the Best New Plot******

Thanks to everyone who came along to the Community Garden yesterday braving the showers. It was good to see so many old and new friends and to share some experiences while we remained respectful of the need for protection. A common theme in conversation was how much the allotment has meant to all of us this summer, providing occupation, distraction from lockdown, exercise and the release of energy.
And we had a winner for the Best New Plot - Caroline Dixon of Plot 21A. Judging was made by Sylvia Harris, the doyenne of Oathall Avenue allotments and a leading figure in Haywards Heath Horticultural Society. Sylvia inspected all the plots last week and was very impressed with the high standards of allotments here especially for those in their first year. Caroline's prize was a bottle of champagne, presented by Murray on behalf of ALPC.
