really got started on the plot yesterday.
down there at 8-o-clock and started to dig out the gooseberry bushes
after digging them out started to make one of the beds.
boy was the ground hard !
we then started digging out the bed in the other corner.
by this time murray had joined us.
that bed was even harder to dig than the other one.
after murray had retired from the fray andrew and i replanted the
gooseberry bushes back into the beds.
having to give every one of them two gallons of water each.
i left about three completly done in
was in bed by nine last night and slept the whole night through.
andrew carried on, on his own.
he sure can work.
all in all a good start.

large sack of king alfred daffodil bulbs arrived today
given free by a supplier for the communal garden
something like 300 to 350 good sized bulbs all for the beds.
so the other two corner beds will have to be made as soon as
possible.
hope to get them done this week some time.
so Gill if you could spare a couple of hours this coming saturday
would be very grateful.
planted up some border carnations in the two beds that had been
planted up.

Great work. I have just finished my last working Sunday for the year so will have a bit more time now at weekends. I've got my own plot to kick in to shape of course but would really like to get involved in the community one too. Next time I bump into one of you I'll see what jobs I can help with. I just bought 300 hundred tulips for some customers and myself but happy to contribute a few dozen to the case if they can be of use. Also I'll be propagating lots of perennials for the garden I work for over winter and I am sure they would be happy for me to put a few aside for the allotment if we have space and want that sort of thing. If you are thinking of an herbaceous border that is.

My petrol tool set now includes mower, hedge cutter short and long, strimmer, leaf blower and vac. So if you need any of those let me know what needs doing. Hoping to add the chainsaw next.

A little more work yesterday and today, and we have the third of the corner quadrants dug. At rear are bags of stones painstakingly collected from the plot over a period of some years, and these will form hardcore for the path that will border the plot on the stream side.

The front of the plot looking a little less unkempt thanks to wilbarra's rotovator.

ANDREW AND I HAD A GOOD DAY ON THE PLOT
ONE OF THOSE DAYS WHEN YOU BEGIN TO SEE REAL PROGRESS AND THINGS

WE FIRST PUT UP THE ARCH WAY WHERE THE ENTRANCE TO THE GARDEN IS GOING

DIGGING OUT A PEAR TREE AND THEN REPLANTING IN A FOUR FOOT WIDE AND FOUR
DEEP HOLE IS WAY PAST ME NOW.
BUT IT DIDNT SEEM TO BOTHER ANDREW.
WE BOTH THEN WENT ONTO TRYING TO GET SOME SORT OF LEVEL TO THE PLOT AND
BY THE END OF THE DAY IT DID LOOK, TO SOME DEGREE,A LOT MORE LEVEL THAN
WHEN WE STARTED.
MY LAST JOB OF THE DAY WAS TO HELP ANDREW CUT DOWN AN OLD PLUM TREE.
AT FOUR-O-CLOCK I HAD, HAD ENOUGH AND WENT HOME LEAVING ANDREW TO DO A BIT
MORE.
WE ARE GOING TO MARK OUT THE MIDDLE BED AND THAT IS WHERE WE THOUGHT

ANOTHER WANT.
TWO RAMBLER OR CLIMBER ROSES TO GO OVER THE ARCHWAY.

SHE BROUGHT IT HERSELF OUT OF HER POCKET MONEY AS A THANK YOU FOR HELP HER
